This July 4th, as fireworks light up the sky across the country, we’re celebrating something extra special here at Bicycle Warehouse: our 32nd anniversary!

Back in 1992, we opened our doors with one simple goal: to inspire more people to enjoy the freedom of riding bikes. What started as a local bike shop in Southern California has grown into a full-blown family of cycling enthusiasts, helping riders all over the country fuel their adventures, one pedal stroke at a time.

How It All Started

Bicycle Warehouse was founded by Debbe and Mike Simmons, a husband-and-wife team passionate about bikes, the outdoors, and creating memorable experiences. Their belief was simple: riding a bike can change your life. It can help you stay healthy, connect with your community, and explore the world around you.

With that spirit, they launched Bicycle Warehouse in San Diego and the rest is history.

From day one, the business was built on guest-first service, a deep knowledge of bikes and gear, and a dedication to treating every rider like family. Today, we still live by that same philosophy.

32 Years Later & Still Pedaling Strong

What began as a single shop has grown into a robust online store and a network of physical locations across Southern California. We've helped thousands of riders find their dream bikes, repair beloved rides, and gear up for every kind of two-wheeled adventure.

Over the past three decades, we’ve seen:

  • The rise of electric bikes and shifting cycling trends

  • Generations of families buying their first kids bikes

  • Local communities grow stronger through group rides and in-store clinics

  • A team that’s now over 50 strong: all focused on one mission: to get more butts on bikes

Through it all, we’ve remained proudly independent, locally rooted, and rider-obsessed.

Built on Freedom: Fitting for the Fourth of July

It’s no accident that we opened on July 4th, 1992. There’s something fitting about a bike shop starting its journey on Independence Day. After all, what’s more freeing than hopping on a bike and riding wherever the road (or trail) takes you?

Bikes are about freedom: the freedom to move, to explore, to feel the wind in your face and leave the stress of the day behind. That’s what we’ve been celebrating every day for 32 years, and especially this week.

Thank You for 32 Incredible Years

We couldn’t have made it here without you, our incredible guests, friends, and riding community. Whether you’ve shopped with us online, visited one of our stores, or just waved hello on the trail, thank you for being part of our story.

Every ride you take helps fuel our mission. Every bike we help you build, repair, or upgrade brings us closer to a healthier, happier world on two wheels.

What’s Next? Even More Bikes, More Gear, More Adventure

As we look ahead, our passion for riding hasn’t slowed down a bit. We're continuing to grow our online selection, expand our in-store services, and bring you the best brands in mountain bikes, road bikes, e-bikes, and cycling gear.

We're also focused on giving back: supporting bike advocacy groups, trail building efforts, and youth riding programs. Because we believe the joy of cycling should be for everyone.

Join the Celebration

Celebrate with us this month. Whether that means grabbing a new ride, stopping by a store, or just getting out for a ride with family and friends.

To all the riders we’ve met over the years and all the ones we’ve yet to meet. Thank you for letting us be part of your biking journey.

Here’s to the next 32 years of adventure, freedom, and fun.
Ride on, and Happy 4th of July from the Bicycle Warehouse family!
