Specialized Mountain Bikes FAQs

What is Specialized S-Sizing?

Specialized uses S-Sizing (S1 through S6) for many of their trail and gravity bikes. Unlike traditional sizing that focuses on seat tube height, S-Sizing is based on what matters most: your reach and wheelbase.

  • Smaller S-Sizes: These have a shorter wheelbase and are more "flickable," making them great for playfulness and tight trails.
  • Larger S-Sizes: These offer more stability at high speeds and through chunky terrain.

What does SWAT stand for?

SWAT stands for Storage, Water, Air, and Tools. It is a design philosophy that integrates essential gear directly into the bike. Most carbon Specialized mountain bikes feature a "SWAT Door" in the down tube, allowing you to store tubes, pumps, and snacks inside the frame so you can ride without a pack.

Do Specialized mountain bikes come tubeless?

Almost all Specialized mid-range to high-end mountain bikes ship with tubeless-ready rims and tires. In most cases, the bikes even come with tubeless valves in the box. You will simply need to add sealant to complete the setup and enjoy lower tire pressures without the risk of pinch flats.

What is the warranty on a Specialized mountain bike frame?

Specialized offers a lifetime warranty to the original owner against structural defects in material or workmanship on all Specialized-branded frames and forks. This applies to both carbon and alloy models. Additionally, Specialized branded components (like Roval wheels) usually carry a two-year warranty.

What is GENIE suspension technology?

Introduced on the new Stumpjumper 15, GENIE is a patent-pending air spring technology. It uses two separate air chambers to give you the "stuck to the ground" feel of a coil shock for the first 70 percent of the travel, while providing the bottom-out protection of an air shock for the final 30 percent. It essentially gives you the best of both worlds.

Can I flip the "Flip Chip" myself?

Yes. Many Specialized frames include a "Flip Chip" at the shock mount or the chainstay pivot. By flipping this small piece of hardware, you can change the bike’s geometry, such as raising or lowering the bottom bracket or adjusting the head tube angle. It is a simple adjustment that can be done with standard hex wrenches to tune the bike for your local terrain.

Specialized Mountain Bikes

Specialized Mountain Bikes: Innovate or Die

Since 1974, Specialized has lived by a simple motto: Innovate or Die. That relentless pursuit of performance has made their mountain bikes the gold standard for everyone from World Cup racers to weekend trail enthusiasts. Whether you are hunting for the lightest XC rig on the planet or a gravity-defying enduro machine, there is a Specialized bike built to elevate your ride.

The Specialized Advantage: Engineering the Future

What sets a Specialized mountain bike apart is the attention to detail. It is not just about high-quality carbon fiber. It is about integrated technologies that make the bike disappear beneath you.

  • SWAT Technology: Specialized was the first to realize your bike should carry your gear. Integrated down tube storage means you can ditch the heavy backpack.
  • FACT Carbon Fiber: Functional Advanced Composite Technology ensures that every frame is tuned for the perfect balance of stiffness, weight, and strength.
  • FSR Suspension: A legendary four-bar linkage system that remains active under braking and independent of pedaling forces.
  • GENIE Shock Tech: The latest in suspension innovation, providing the supple feel of a coil with the bottomless support of an air shock.

Find Your Dirt: The Lineup

Cross Country (XC)

If speed is your only metric, the XC category is where you belong. These bikes are designed to climb like goats and sprint like thoroughbreds.

  • Epic 8: The fastest XC bike in the world. With 120mm of travel and available Flight Attendant electronic suspension, it is built for the modern, technical race course.
  • Epic World Cup: A specialized tool for the purist. It offers a revolutionary integrated shock that delivers hardtail efficiency with full-suspension control.
  • Chisel: The perfect entry point into racing. An incredibly light alloy frame that mimics the geometry of its carbon siblings.

Trail and All-Mountain

These are the quiver killers. These bikes are designed to be efficient enough for all-day epics but burly enough to handle chunky descents.

  • Stumpjumper 15: The benchmark trail bike. It features the new GENIE shock and a geometry that feels "just right" the moment you swing a leg over it.
  • Stumpjumper EVO: For the rider who wants a trail bike with an aggressive edge. Adjustable geometry and more travel make it a favorite for steep, technical terrain.

Gravity and Enduro

When the lift stops or the shuttle ends, these bikes take over. Built for big hits and high speeds.

  • Enduro: A monster of a bike that pedals surprisingly well. It features a low-slung chassis and rearward axle path to carry speed through the roughest rock gardens.
  • Demo: The downhill specialist. Multiple World Championship wins prove that when the clock is running, there is no better choice for the steepest tracks on earth.

Turbo Electric Mountain Bikes (e-MTB)

Specialized redefined what an e-bike could be with the Turbo line. They feel like a mountain bike, only with the power to ride more trails.

  • Turbo Levo: The most capable full-power e-MTB. It gives you the "Power of 4" (four times your own leg power) with a ride quality that is second to none.
  • Turbo Levo SL: For the rider who wants a lightweight, natural feel. It is significantly lighter than full-power e-bikes and handles like a traditional trail bike.
  • Turbo Kenevo: The shuttle-killer. A long-travel e-MTB designed for the biggest, baddest descents you can find.
