Carlsbad’s new Veterans Memorial Park is set to become one of the most exciting additions to San Diego County’s cycling scene. With a dedicated bike park, direct trail access, and scenic coastal views, this long-awaited project is a massive win for local riders, families, and outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re into mountain biking, dirt jumps, or just rolling with the kids, the park will be a must-ride destination in North County when it opens.
Ten Years in the Making
After more than a decade of advocacy from the San Diego Mountain Biking Association (SDMBA) and local riders, the Carlsbad City Council officially approved construction plans for the 93.7-acre Veterans Memorial Park. The design includes a family-oriented bike park with spectator seating, shaded hangouts, and nature-inspired features that flow right into the larger trail network.
What’s Coming
Located off Faraday Avenue near Cannon Road, this will be Carlsbad’s largest community park. About half the land will remain preserved open space, while the rest will offer trails, playgrounds, and plenty of outdoor fun. Riders can look forward to:
- A purpose-built bike park for riders of all ages and skill levels
- Spectator seating and shaded plazas for cooling off and hanging out
- Trail access connecting to Carlsbad’s wider trail system
- Fitness climbs and outdoor exercise zones for a full-body session
- Nature-inspired design that blends with the local landscape
Timeline
The City of Carlsbad plans to put the project out to bid in October 2025, with construction starting early 2026 and completion expected around late 2027.
Why It Matters
This is a major milestone for San Diego’s riding community. Years of public input, planning, and advocacy finally paid off. SDMBA’s persistent work helped make sure cycling had a dedicated home in Carlsbad’s recreation plans.
Stay Stoked
It’s not every day we get a new public bike park, especially one built right into a 90+ acre community park with ocean views. So spread the word, give SDMBA some love, and get ready to drop in once the park opens.
More trails, more dirt, more good times ahead!
