Why Use Chamois Butter?

Once you use Chamois butter you'll never ride again without it!
But first what is a Chamois? It's the padding inside a bicycle short- Chamois's are inside most cycling shorts no matter if you have a mountain short, road bib or cycling shorts most shorts have a chamois inside.
Tenderness is what happens as you start riding longer distances or more aggressive mountain riding: As you ride, bacteria, sweat, friction and heat build up between your butt and your cycling shorts. Chamois butter provides a soft lubrication that reduces the friction between your bare butt and the Chamois. Yes, I said bare butt most riders ask "Should I wear underwear? The answer is no - go all naked (no, I just mean no underwear) for goodness sake wear shorts and a jersey unless you're stud muffin then show the world!

By applying Chamois butter you are giving your butt a layer of lubrication that will help soothe, heal and cool your bottom side. All because of the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties in Chamois butter/cream.
About 20 years ago cycling shorts had a leather Chamois.  I remember my Hind cycling shorts I used to use the cream to soften the Chamois because after washing and drying it  - it would get hard and stiff now cycling shorts have synthetic padding but your butt still needs the butter or cream on long rides to avoid chaffing.
Most riders think that Chamois cream is only for professional riders but it's not. It's for anyone that is taking a long ride even 20-30 miles because your butt can get irritated this will alleviate your irritation so you can ride again the next day and ride further.  It's best to use it before you start your ride.  There are quite a few brands of Chamois butter and cream you won't go wrong with any of them.
Once your done riding be sure to wash off the Chamois butter.
So, treat your behind to some love with Chamois butter you'll be glad you did.
It's your World, Ride it!
