Whistler, British Columbia – a beautiful mountain town just two hours north of Vancouver is a mecca for the biking enthusiast. If you’re looking for a super fun day to explore a beautiful area, have fun on bikes and meet great people. Make Whistler your own… here’s what we’d recommend..
Coffee Kick Start
If coffee is your thing, then Mount Currie Coffee on Main Street should be your first stop. It is a charming little nook where you will find some of the best coffee in town, complimented with fresh wraps and snacks to fuel you for the day.
The mellow atmosphere and local art hanging on the walls make Mount Currie something special.
From there make your way up the village stroll, past Olympic Plaza to the base of Whistler Mountain where a ticket can be purchased for “Top of the World” in the Whistler Bike Park.
This all-mountain trail is perfect for putting you and your bike to the test.
The Pre-Check
Before embarking on your ride, make sure you perform a pre-ride check. That means, the ABCs!
A: Make sure you have the right amount of AIR in your tires (between 20-35 PSI, keep in mind, lower pressure = more traction);
B: Check your BRAKES to ensure they are working properly (engaging before the brake lever hits the handlebar and not rubbing); and
C: Check to make sure your CHAIN is shifting easily into every gear.
The Gondola
There are few better ways to get to the top of a mountain than a Gondola. After you’ve got your ticket, hop on and take it in. After about a 20 minute ride up to the top of Whistler Mountain, and one more open chair lift, your ride can begin.
The trail winds its way through high alpine against the backdrop of ancient volcanic peaks of the Coastal Range of British Columbia.
It’s stunning.
Take a moment to admire the majestic mountains and breathtaking views while whiskey jacks (also known as Canadian Jay birds) circle the skies above.
Enjoy a snack, some laughs and a beer if you brought it (just remember to pack out what you pack in!)
The ride will be thrillingly loose and rocky at some points, the single track doesn’t let up it’s fun flowy descent.
Top of the World connects to the Garbonzo zone where the Blue Velvet trail leads to the lower mountain and back to the valley floor.
This trail is bucket list worthy, and is worth the journey. Trust us, you will love it and feel absolutely exhilarated from the ride down.
Post Ride
For an after ride beer, head to the GLC (Garibaldi Lift Co.) and enjoy all the action from the large outdoor patio.
Take a moment to reflect on the awesomeness of the day, time with friends, and the adventure to come.
